
I don’t look at punk as nostalgia. I just think it’s a type of thinking that will always, always stay with me. I think people have this image of punk as like this angry movement and, to me, I never saw it that way. It’s actually a very positive, happy celebratory type of music.
Commentary on “Love Song” by The Damned
This is one of the reasons I like Fred Armisen. Intellectual and musical street cred. I know this conversation always goes in circles with every generation of youth in rock & rock culture, but I always think it’s funny when people have a concrete definition and image of what “punk” is. To most, punk just represents anger and anarchy and dressing with studded black jackets. But in my opinion, being “punk” means remaining vibrant, youthful, and resistant to dominant forms of thinking. Community organizing, questioning new legislation that would affect your neighborhood and life, maintaining that sense of youthfulness and looking at the world through a brand new lens each day, THAT’S punk. Idk. I can talk on and on about this, but I’ll save it for a thesis project or something…
