We never had a house, but we've always had a home.
This is the kind of event I’d program if I were the director of some arts program. An excuse to have donuts during a film showing. Brilliant.
Julian Casablancas - “I Love LA”
I’ve posted this before, but whatthehey. Julian screws with Newman’s original lyrics, but this version is a million times better.
Everybody is somebody
from the east side to the west side
Down in Long Beach to the Valley,
don’t you worry, it’s just LA.
Everybody, pretty laid back,
and the sun is shining everyday…
I love LA.
Remember when Laker fans started throwing stuff onto the court on the Christmas day game against the Cavs in 09? Merry Christmas, indeed. Stay classy, Los Angeles.
Everyone gets a huge Christmas present this year! The NBA is back! Took you long enough, punks. Let’s get ‘em.

I forgot that this was this weekend! Good thing I remembered. And wtf? Das Racist ain’t doin’ the LA date? That’s booty, yo.

I want. This has to be the defining cultural event of Los Angeles this decade.

(Ohhhkayyy, not even gonna lie: that bean & cheese burrito was BOMB-DIGGITY. Back to the main story…)
Here’s an LA Weekly article about LAUSD’s subpar approach to school food. I remember being one of those kids they talked about in the article. And now those problems are being passed onto the next generation, while administrators are busy pointing fingers. Politics hurt the children. There are a billion things to take into consideration when trying to take care of the nutrition requirements of hundreds of thousands kids on a daily basis, like income levels, cultural differences, and umm the fact that kids are kids and they are fickle in decision-making with food. I don’t know where I’m going with this, but I just don’t want kids in my hood to get the short end of the stick anymore. Change school menus and have people with 6-figure salaries take paycuts. BAM, SUCKA. I SOLVED THE FRIGGIN’ PROBLEM.
Here’s some random quotes from the article:
In truth, the district spends a total of $2.49 per meal — and is reimbursed for it by the federal government. The $2.49 is based on what USDA economists estimate a healthy meal costs. But of that amount, just 77 cents goes to food. Why? First, subtract $1.42 for labor and benefits. Subtract 12 cents for supplies. Subtract 18 cents for operating expenses. That leaves 77 cents.
Here’s interesting news: LA graff writer Revok got 6 months in jail for violating his probation. The funny thing is that they arrested him right before borading a plane to Ireland. I think he was previously charged for over $120k in vandalism charges, if I’m not mistaken. That’s a lot of Krylon…
If you’re in any major international city, then you’ve probably seen some of his pieces up around town, typically on a billboard or on an alley wall. In LA, you’ve probably seen his piece somewhere off of the 101 or any downtown interchange.
That’s a pretty dope 7th Letter Crew tee, too.
Sidebar: It’s funny how crews have websites now. “Yee, dogg. We got this city covered, yo. We straight reppin’ the streets… Oh, check out our blogspot.” :| Not makin’ fun of them, though. Street culture + the internet = excellence.

I got a press pass for the NBA All-Star Weekend. Rookie challenge, Dunk Contest, All-Star Game. Everything. Also, when I checked in, I walked behind the Laker girls for a couple minutes, haha.
