Tyler, The Creator - “Seven”
Bigotry, homophobia, violence, misogyny. These are some of the themes that Tyler touches on throughout the entire Bastard album. I don’t approve of much of these lyrics, but Tyler’s balancing act between sarcasm/satire, sincerity, and coming into maturity makes me a fan. Plus, I like how he calls out a lot of hip-hop blogs and artists. Sometimes it feels like hip-hop is a caricature of itself, and I’m glad that Tyler points that out. Example, (please excuse me posting such vulgar language, btw):
Fuck 2 Dope Boyz and Nah Right
shout out to Hypetrack those motherfucker can never get rid of me
I guess I gotta do a fucken song with Dom Kennedy,
get these fucken hip-hop blogs to start feeling me.
Because I’m 17, compose my own beats […]
Maybe I should buy some Hundreds, wear some fucken skinny jeans
and follow in your footsteps like a motherfucken millipede
centipede, make songs about Gucci and cigaweed
jerk with the friends, look like a motherfucken little league.
No, I’m not no hipster, mister. No I’m not no fucken kid cudi,
all my fucken fans love me.
